GameStop Is About To Change The Way We Rent Games With Power Pass

Let’s face it, sometimes buying a new game can be rough. Spending $60 on a brand new video game can be pretty rough, especially when you consider how little you know about the game. Sure, you’ve probably done your research, watched trailers, gameplay videos, read reviews, the whole nine yards – but until you actually play the game yourself, you’ll never know if that $60 you just shelled out was worth it.

Luckily, there is a way to find out if a game is for you without spending a good portion of your paycheck on it; it’s called renting. From Blockbuster to Redbox, renting games has been the go-to for gamers on a budget for a long time. Now, GameStop is finally throwing its hat in the renting ring.

The popular video game retailer has announced a new renting system that’s sure to get gamers everywhere excited. The system, called PowerPass, allows users to rent any number of used games that their local GameStop has available for six months. Sounds awesome right?

Well, there a couple of catches to this sweet new deal. First off, you can only have one rented game out at a time, so if you want to take another one home, you’re going to have to return the one you already rented before you do so. Secondly, you have to be a member of GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards program to purchase PowerPass. Luckily, the free version of the membership works just as well as the paid version.

Lastly, and this is probably the most obvious catch, you are limited to the used games that your local GameStop has to offer. All of these seem like pretty simple catches, and definitely shouldn’t ward off anyone interested in giving the program a look. Sure, you’re still going to be paying $60, but at least you potentially get a lot more for the amount that you’re paying. Plus, you get to keep one game you rented at the end of the six-month period as well!

GameStop’s Power Pass program launches on November 13. What do you think of the renting program? Sound off in the comments below!
