Kevin Spacey has faced some heat in the last couple days for being accused of sexual misconduct by Star Trek: Discovery and Rent actor Antony Rapp. The claim goes that in 1986, when Rapp was only 14 and Spacey was 26, Spacey invited Rapp to a party at his home. The night ended when Spacey, who was allegedly drunk, carried Rapp into his bedroom and tried to initiate sexual intercourse with him.
“He was trying to seduce me. I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.”
– Rapp, when asked about Spacey’s drunken attempt by Buzzfeed
In light of the controversy, which was likely to have been started as a direct result of the other sexual predators being outed in Hollywood, Kevin Spacey finally took to Twitter to make a public statement. In the statement, Spacey starts by claiming he does not remember the situation, but seeing as he was supposedly drunk, this would not be surprising. He went on to sincerely apologize for his actions, despite not remembering it, and showing remorse for the negative impact his drunken actions had on the Rent actor growing up.
The second half of Spacey’s statement, however, is where the true bombshell came. Kevin Spacey finally opened up about his personal life and came out as gay. There have been numerous rumors over the years of Kevin Spacey’s mysterious sex life, so the idea of Spacey being homosexual is not something entirely shocking. However, it is still quite the surprise to see the actor come out about it publicly, considering how much he likes privacy in the personal aspects of his life.

While there are many people who are content with Spacey’s statements, seeing his actions as a mistake made in his youth and acknowledging his bravery, there are many who are understandably still angered at the actor and seek justice. In fact, many people are accusing Spacey of coming out only to deflect the accusations and perhaps make everyone forget about what started the issue in the first place.
Here are a few Twitter reactions to Spacey’s revelation:
Obviously, things are very heated, as they almost always are on Twitter. Many people are anxious to forgive Spacey and praise him for his bravery for coming out. Many other people are continuing to insist on locking Spacey up for pedophilia. More development will be needed before any decisions are made on these sexual misconduct allegations. We will do our best to keep you posted as things develop further.
